| Event Description: | Suparco Week Report 2023 Introduction: Suparco Week, organized by the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (Suparco), was a dynamic and engaging event dedicated to promoting space science, technology, and their practical applications in Pakistan. This week-long event comprised various activities encompassing art, research, debate, article writing, and entrepreneurship tasks, all with a focus on space and its sustainability. Activities: October 4th: The week began with students visited multimedia room and watched different videos and documentaries related to space and NASA. Students thoroughly October 5th: In addition to the space awareness session, students of grades 6 to 10 celebrated Teachers' Day by expressing their gratitude through the gift of plants, emphasizing their commitment to the environment. Following it was a poster making competition. A poster-making competition allowed students to exhibit their remarkable artistic abilities, leading to the selection of finalists who demonstrated exceptional creativity October 6th: A major highlight for the day was the research initiative, where approximately 40 students were divided into groups to delve into various aspects of space. This activity significantly enhanced the students' research and reading skills. Moreover, students had the chance to visit an art gallery in school related to space and the environment. A thought-provoking debate also took place, focusing on topics such as whether the earth is livable or not. Students discussed arguments both for and against space exploration and its sustainability and how we can save earth. The debate showcased the participants' confidence and persuasive abilities, with finalists being acknowledged for their outstanding performance. October 9th: In the context of space and environmental considerations, the students have undertaken a project with a focus on sustainability. They reused plastic bottles through the creation of eco-bricks, which serve as an innovative approach to recycling plastic waste and contribute to a greener environment. Talking about robotics, the students also successfully developed online gaming applications and executed the necessary coding to support it. October 10th: The week culminated with a remarkable event that encompassed both article writing and entrepreneurship tasks. Around 40 students from SMS Aga Khan participated and produced an impressive array of articles. Their outstanding work left teachers in awe of their talents and knowledge. Simultaneously, entrepreneurship tasks were undertaken, where students displayed their innovative ideas and problem-solving skills, further promoting entrepreneurial spirit among the participants. Under School's Entrepreneur club, students set up the stalls and all the profit generated by the students was contributed to "Wasila Scholarship" Wasila Scholarship is an initiative of Sultan Mahomed Shah Aga Khan School in which the profit generated by club is utilised in giving merit cum need-based scholarship to their fellow students. This year 16 students received 25% scholarship in their tuition fee. Conclusion: Suparco Week proved to be a resounding success, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of space science and technology. It offered a platform for students to showcase their creativity, analytical skills, and passion for space-related topics. These activities not only fostered interest but also inspired young individuals to consider future careers in the exciting and ever-evolving field of space science and technology. Suparco Week is a shining example of the importance of science education and engagement in the pursuit of knowledge and innovation, and it encourages entrepreneurship and innovation. |
