Report on the Results:  The first day of Plenary session of 7th International Conference on Space Science & Technology was held on today at Arts & Social Sciences Auditorium, University of Karachi. In this year, the theme of the Conference is “Space and Entrepreneurship”. This conference is organized by the Institute of Space Science & Technology (ISST), University of Karachi in collaboration with the Department of Mathematics and Sciences, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi. The Vice Chancellor, University of Karachi, Prof. Dr. Khalid M. Iraqi, has presided the Conference. He said that we are living in a time, where Space Science & Technology is contributing heavily in the development of our economy and our society. He further said that the advancements in Space Science and Technology will not only help in exploring new things in our universe but it is being used in many fields such as for planning of urban development, monitoring Natural disasters, etc. Many common everyday services for terrestrial use such as weather forecasting, remote sensing, satellite navigation systems, satellite television, and some long-distance communications systems critically rely on space infrastructure. He also mentioned in his speech about importance of weather, Climate Change and Food Security. He said that we have understood our problems and find out the solutions ourselves, instead of looking towards western countries. He discussed about the limited resources and utilization in various aspects. Vice Chancellor, Sir Syed University of Engineering & Technology, Prof. Dr. Vali Uddin was the Guest of Honor of the first day of the International Conference. He informed that creating the atmosphere of Research and Innovation, as well as nourishing young minds are today utmost needs of this modern era. He further emphasized that Collaboration with different Universities of Private and Public sector is the basic need of the society to develop our young generation. One research scholar, Prof. Dr. Zhongwei Huang, Key Laboratory for Semi-Arid Climate Change of the Ministry of Education, College of Atmospheric Sciences, Lanzhou University, China presented their research work on “Dust Observation by a Ground-based Lidar Network along Global Dust Belt” in this International conference. The Director ISST, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Jawed Iqbal has given welcome address and greetings to the invited speakers and participants. He said that the main reason of organizing this International Conference is the awareness of Space Science education in Pakistan. He acknowledged to all the members of the Conference Organizing Committee with including the Secretary Conference, Dr. Faisal Afridi. He talked about the importance of Space Science and Technology in this century. He said that the main objective of our Institute is to produce human capital to cater to the indigenous needs of Space Science and Technology via teaching and research. He further said that they are focusing on Aerospace engineering, Satellite Communications, and Remote Sensing. He informed that recently, their undergraduate students also won first position in the IMechE PropellAir 2023 national competition of remote control flight. He further informed that they are working on a Cube Satellite and Robotics. He said that the mission proposal of their CubeSat has been accepted by the Asia Pacific Space Cooperation Organization which works in collaboration with the United Nations. Prof. Dr. Jawaid Quamar has given Vote of thanks to the invited speakers, participants, faculty members and students. Around 30 research presentations and papers will be presented at the two-day International Conference, to celebrate the ‘World Space Week-2023’.
