Houston (November 29, 2017) – Today, 18-year-old World Space Week is stepping into a new chapter of growth and expansion.

Along with the recent election of Dr. Francisco Javier Mendieta, Director General of the Mexican Space Agency, to Chair the Association – the first-ever election of the head of a space agency to lead the organization – World Space Week Association is proud to unveil a striking new visual brand identity (new logo, color palette and overall design) – the first update to the event’s aesthetic since its founding.

Having attracted millions of participants since its inception in 1999, with 3,500+ activities in 82 nations during WSW2017 alone, WSWA president Dennis Stone has bold aspirations for the organization: “One million events in 10 years.”

This new brand identity signifies renewed commitment to bringing many more humans closer to space, and indelibly marks this inflection point in the organization.

About The New Brand Identity

Born of careful consideration and partnership between the WSWA Board and Cosma Schema, a design agency founded specifically to create greater understanding, accessibility and excitement about outer space, WSWA’s new visual brand identity is modern, sophisticated, and powerful.

The new logo cites cosmic origins in its graceful suggestion the organization’s core values: inclusivity, synergy and the union of humanity and space. Its proportions are derived from a ratio based on the actual sizes of the earth and moon when placed adjacent to one another.

Along with its strikingly simple form, the unexpected choice of electric purple communicates power of a regal order and a distinct breath of fresh air and innovation amidst of sea of black and blue swooshes saturating the space sector. The boldness of its color and form matches the boldness of WSWA’s world-class aspirations to continue to shine as the brightest beacon of connection between humans and space.

With their incredibly diverse global participants in mind, WSWA created strong, easy-to-use brand guidelines including a foolproof usage and titling system so all countries and organizations can create their own unique, yet brand-consistent version of the WSWA logo.

The new brand identity is live across all WSW properties including this website, Twitter, and Facebook among others.

“Knowing that our visual brand identity is our first impression, when a young scientist or seasoned astrophysicist attends a World Space Week event for the first time, we now have confidence that we are communicating to them all that we aspire to be. It will serve us for years to come as a memorable visual anchor that simply and boldly signifies the connection between humanity and space.” – Dennis Stone, President, World Space Week Association.
