“Discovery” is the theme for the largest space event on Earth in 2015. This month February 2015 we are running a poster contest to complement our theme. The poster will showcase the many discoveries that humanity is making in space and will be an important addition to the historic World Space Week poster gallery.
The contest is open to all amateur and professional artists in the world. The grand prize will be the publicity generated by the fact that the winning poster will have over 3,000 copies printed and distributed to 80 countries in the world, where it will be displayed at schools, universities, science centers, planetaria and space companies. Obviously your name as artist, as well as a link to your website will be on the poster. As a UN-declared event the poster will also be distributed and displayed at many UN locations, and shown in official presentations, including the World Space Week update to the UN Committee On the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN-COPUOS).
The poster will need to reflect the “Discovery” theme in the context of discoveries in deep space. The theme is greatly inspired by missions like GAIA, Rosetta, Kepler and Hubble, enhancing our knowledge of our solar system, the Milky Way galaxy, exoplanets and galaxies far away.
Poster criteria:
- B2 size (500 x 707mm or 19.7 x 27.8 in)
- Full color
- EPS or TIF electronic file format with a minimum of 300 dpi
- Contain theme text “Discovery”
- Contain large text “World Space Week” in English
- Contain event date “4-10 October 2015” in English
- Contain small texts “World Space Week, 4-10 October 2015” in Chinese, Arabic, French, Spanish and Russian
- Contain World Space Week logo and URL
- Contain a white banner at the bottom for our sponsor logo’s (that will be added just prior to printing, just leave blank for now)
- Be culturally and socially acceptable in all countries of the world
- Be free of copyrights
Please have a look at our historic poster gallery and our 2014 poster for an idea of what all these texts looks like and how they are displayed on the poster. We will require two versions of the poster: One with and with without texts. The latter is used by our local coordinators to create local language versions of the poster. When sending in your artwork you agree that it will be distributed under creative commons license conditions.
It will be a great plus if the poster artwork can easily be converted into social media banners, like Facebook and Twitter backgrounds.
